After prayer

Right after the salam of each obligatory prayer.

Seeking forgiveness

×3

I ask Allah to forgive me.

Sahih Muslim 591

After the prayer the Prophet ﷺ asked Allah's forgiveness three times. Imam al-Awza'i, one of its narrators, was asked how, and said: 'Astaghfirullah, Astaghfirullah.'

Allah, You are Peace

×1

Allah, You are Peace and safety comes from You; You are full of blessing, Owner of greatness and honour.

In brief: After prayer the Prophet ﷺ asked forgiveness three times and then said this.

No one can withhold Your gift

×1

Only Allah deserves worship, alone, with no partner. All rule and praise are His, and He can do all things. Allah, no one can hold back what You give or give what You hold back; wealth cannot help its owner before You.

In brief: The Prophet ﷺ said this after every obligatory prayer.

Glory to Allah

×33

Allah is free from every fault.

In brief: After prayer the Prophet ﷺ taught saying Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu akbar thirty-three times each, then tahlil to complete one hundred.

Praise to Allah

×33

All praise belongs to Allah.

In brief: After prayer the Prophet ﷺ taught saying Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu akbar thirty-three times each, then tahlil to complete one hundred.

Allah is greatest

×33

Allah is greater than all.

In brief: After prayer the Prophet ﷺ taught saying Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu akbar thirty-three times each, then tahlil to complete one hundred.

Complete one hundred

×1

Only Allah deserves worship, alone, with no partner. All rule and praise belong to Him, and He can do all things.

In brief: After Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu akbar thirty-three times each, saying this completes one hundred and brings forgiveness even for sins like sea foam.

Ayat al-Kursi

×1

Allāh - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living,[98] the Self-Sustaining.[99] Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them,[100] and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursī[101] extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High,[102] the Most Great.[103]

Al-Ikhlas

×1

Say, "He is Allāh, [who is] One,[2011] Allāh, the Eternal Refuge.[2012] He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent."

In brief: The report says to recite 'the mu'awwidhat' (the surahs of seeking refuge) after every prayer. Al-Falaq and An-Nas are certain; many scholars include Al-Ikhlas in this word, while another narration says 'the two mu'awwidhat'.

Al-Falaq

×1

Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak From the evil of that which He created And from the evil of darkness when it settles And from the evil of the blowers in knots[2014] And from the evil of an envier when he envies."

In brief: The Prophet ﷺ instructed reciting the protective surahs after every prayer.

An-Nas

×1

Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, The Sovereign of mankind, The God of mankind, From the evil of the retreating whisperer[2016] - Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind - From among the jinn and mankind."[2017]

In brief: The Prophet ﷺ instructed reciting the protective surahs after every prayer.
