91. Ash-Shamsالشمس

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا١1

   By the sun and its brightness

   Listen from ayah 1
2. وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا٢2

   And [by] the moon when it follows it

   Listen from ayah 2
3. وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا٣3

   And [by] the day when it displays it^[1931]

   Listen from ayah 3
4. وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا٤4

   And [by] the night when it covers [i.e., conceals] it

   Listen from ayah 4
5. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا٥5

   And [by] the sky and He who constructed it

   Listen from ayah 5
6. وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا٦6

   And [by] the earth and He who spread it

   Listen from ayah 6
7. وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا٧7

   And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it^[1932]

   Listen from ayah 7
8. فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا٨8

   And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,

   Listen from ayah 8
9. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا٩9

   He has succeeded who purifies it,

   Listen from ayah 9
10. وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا١٠10

    And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].

    Listen from ayah 10
11. كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ١١11

    Thamūd denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,

    Listen from ayah 11
12. إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا١٢12

    When the most wretched of them was sent forth.^[1933]

    Listen from ayah 12
13. فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا١٣13

    And the messenger of Allāh [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allāh or [prevent her from] her drink."

    Listen from ayah 13
14. فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا١٤14

    But they denied him and hamstrung^[1934] her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].

    Listen from ayah 14
15. وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا١٥15

    And He does not fear the consequence thereof.^[1935]
