90. Al-Baladالبلد

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ١1

   I swear by this city [i.e., Makkah] –

   Listen from ayah 1
2. وَأَنتَ حِلٌّۢ بِهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ٢2

   And you, [O Muḥammad], are free of restriction in this city –

   Listen from ayah 2
3. وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ٣3

   And [by] the father^[1924] and that which was born [of him],

   Listen from ayah 3
4. لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍ٤4

   We have certainly created man into hardship.

   Listen from ayah 4
5. أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّن يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ٥5

   Does he think that never will anyone overcome him?

   Listen from ayah 5
6. يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالًا لُّبَدًا٦6

   He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance."

   Listen from ayah 6
7. أَيَحْسَبُ أَن لَّمْ يَرَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ٧7

   Does he think that no one has seen him?

   Listen from ayah 7
8. أَلَمْ نَجْعَل لَّهُۥ عَيْنَيْنِ٨8

   Have We not made for him two eyes?

   Listen from ayah 8
9. وَلِسَانًا وَشَفَتَيْنِ٩9

   And a tongue and two lips?

   Listen from ayah 9
10. وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلنَّجْدَيْنِ١٠10

    And have shown him the two ways?^[1925]

    Listen from ayah 10
11. فَلَا ٱقْتَحَمَ ٱلْعَقَبَةَ١١11

    But he has not broken through the difficult pass.^[1926]

    Listen from ayah 11
12. وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْعَقَبَةُ١٢12

    And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass?

    Listen from ayah 12
13. فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ١٣13

    It is the freeing of a slave

    Listen from ayah 13
14. أَوْ إِطْعَـٰمٌ فِى يَوْمٍ ذِى مَسْغَبَةٍ١٤14

    Or feeding on a day of severe hunger

    Listen from ayah 14
15. يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ١٥15

    An orphan of near relationship

    Listen from ayah 15
16. أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ١٦16

    Or a needy person in misery

    Listen from ayah 16
17. ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْمَرْحَمَةِ١٧17

    And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion.

    Listen from ayah 17
18. أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ١٨18

    Those are the companions of the right.^[1927]

    Listen from ayah 18
19. وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ١٩19

    But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left.^[1928]

    Listen from ayah 19
20. عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُّؤْصَدَةٌۢ٢٠20

    Over them will be fire closed in.^[1929]
