For those who have passed away, and when you hear of a death.

Prayer for the deceased

×1

Allah, forgive him, show him mercy, grant him well-being and pardon him. Honour his welcome and widen his resting place. Wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sins as You cleanse white cloth of dirt. Give him a better home, family and spouse than those he had. Admit him to Paradise and shelter him from the punishment of the grave or the Fire.

Said in the funeral prayer. For a woman, say -ha in place of -hu (laha, irhamha...).

Visiting graves

×1

Peace be upon you, believing and Muslim inhabitants of these resting places. If Allah wills, we shall follow. I ask Allah for well-being for us and for you.

We return to Allah

×1

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allāh, and indeed to Him we will return."

In brief: This verse describes the patient response to a calamity.

A prayer in loss

×1

Allah, grant me reward amid this loss, and replace what I lost with something better.

In brief: The Prophet ﷺ said that a Muslim who says the return-to-Allah words and this prayer in calamity receives a better replacement from Allah.
